The Courses
When I drafted this curriculum initially, I identified all of the skills I wanted to learn. The ones that I have currently settled on include:
Fiber Foundations
Spinning
Dyeing
Weaving
Tapestry
Knitting
Crochet
Lace Making
Embroidery
Basket Weaving
Rug Making
Macrame
Felting
Sewing/Quilting
For each topic, I then identified a competency at the introductory, intermediate, advanced, and mastery level that I wanted to achieve. I am currently up to 134 modules total! I never said learning would be quick.
The next step was finding free and/or high quality learning resources out in the interwebs and the universe in general. This is where I have leveraged AI to help in the search, asking the new robot overlord to suggest highly rated books, YouTube videos, and online classes.
Not all of these suggestions have been great, but like all good things on the internet, once you click on one link, you can start down the link chain until eventually you dig up little gems.
My goal is to share the fruits of my labor here, the resources and tools that I have found the most useful. I am also going to share my wins and tangles, learning is a journey, and better shared in community than alone.
It will take me time to get all this content up, and even then, I will likely want to keep curating it over time.
I expect two different types of journeys eventually. I think there will be some who want to pick a topic from the left and learn it from start to finish. I myself am going to go through and do the introductory levels for all the topics, and then the intermediate, and so on and so forth. That will get my ADHD brain engaged with new topics.
I hope if you have found me and are someone on your own journey that you share as well!
Fiber Foundations
It all begins with a twist, whether from plant or animal. The ultimate metaphor for strength in numbers.
